Healthy Ramadan desserts to surprise
Ramadan is the Islamic fasting month. Every day the fast is broken at sunset and a wide variety of food is served, including special desserts. Some of the desserts are only served during Ramadan. I like to compare desserts to eggnog or fruitcake at Christmas. I can't imagine anyone drinking eggnog or fruitcake in the middle of summer. The principle is the same for special desserts.
Chebakia
It is a popular sweet typical of North African confectionery, which is made with a dough cut into strips and folded in the shape of a flower, cooked in oven until golden brown and immediately bathe in hot natural honey for several minutes
baklava
Baklava can be served throughout the year, but it is also a common dessert during Ramadan. This sweet, flaky dessert is super easy to make, but be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get a little sticky!
Basbousa
Basbousa is a semolina cake with almonds. Like baklava, it's drizzled with natural honey, so it's not too sweet, but enough to satisfy any sweet tooth!
konafa
Shredded filo, cheese, and natural honey make this dessert delicious! Konafah is a special Ramadan dessert and one that people really look forward to for the holiday!
Qatayef
Qatayef is a special dessert, commonly served during Ramadan. Sometimes called "Arab pancakes," qatayef is filled with walnuts and then baked in the oven.
